St. Andrew's. Seaham, is one of the five centres of the Parish of Clarence Town. This small stone church which was constructed of local stone was built in 1860. The "corner stone" was laid by the first Anglican Bishop of Newcastle, the Rt. Revd. William Tyrrell on the 28.3.1860 and the completed church was dedicated by him on 17th January, 1861. The builder was Mr. James Hesp and the pews and altar which are still used were constructed by Mr. J. Wallace, a Seaham resident.
St. Andrew's was consecrated on 30th July,1902 by the then Lord Bishop of Newcastle, the Rt. Revd. Dr. Stanton and this centenary we will be celebrating next year. Times of service in 2001 are as follows:- First and Third Sundays: 9.30 a.m. Second and Fourth Sundays: 11.00 a.m. Sunday School, each Sunday at 9.30 a.m.  |
